Preparing for Your Real Estate Examination
If you want to work in the real estate industry, it will require a serious commitment of time, study and energy. All professional agents and Realtors are required to perform a set number of classroom hours and also pass their State Board exam with a grade of 75% or higher. While real estate agents and real estate brokers will take different exams, the methods for preparing will be quite similar.
Whichever exam a person is preparing to take, they will have a great deal of knowledge all ready in their head from their weeks or months of classroom or college work. They can also utilize “cram courses” and study guides to help them get ready. Such things are often recommended by teachers and fellow real estate professionals because they give a really good picture of what the student can expect when it comes time for the exam.
The tests can be administered at the real estate school or college, and some areas have accredited mentoring locations that will also serve the student’s needs. There are fees attached to the exam and each state is different. It is up to the student to ensure they are properly registered and able to take the exam when they are required.
Are there any other ways to prepare? Many online classes are available that specifically prepare a student for their state’s exam. Some will last for several weeks and are a great way of enhancing knowledge of the subject matter.
The important thing about any study guides or online courses is that they must be for the specific state about which the exam is given. There are some unscrupulous websites and publishers selling or marketing general courses, but there are no national real estate licenses and state laws are all different, so it is best to go only with a book or program that targets the state in which you plan to work.
Can you get more than one state? Absolutely, and this might be a great idea, but the thing to remember is that each State Board exam will last roughly four hours and cover dozens of topics. This means you shouldn’t try to study in a “back to back” or simultaneous fashion if you want to get a high score.
Preparing for your real estate exam should not be a rushed process and you should take the time to know the subjects in great detail. This can only help you later on when you are a licensed real estate professional.
