What is a realtors association?

A realtors association is an organization that provides services for people who work within real estate. There are realtors associations located in communities throughout the United States and individual goals and services may vary. Realtors associations are generally available at the state level; they are often available at the local level, as well.

Not always limited to realtors

In many communities, the local realtors association is not limited to realtors. Although the name might imply otherwise, many realtors associations are open to anyone who works within the real estate field in some capacity, including bankers, attorneys, home inspectors, and numerous others. In some cases, though, realtors associations could be geared toward those who work as realtors.

Training, continuing education, etc.

A realtors association generally operates much like any other trade-specific organization. They may provide a variety of services, including continuing education programs, training, trade publications, and information about community resources. They may also, in some cases, serve as a clearinghouse for industry information, such as job listings, legal and legislative developments, and other information that would assist those in the real estate industry with doing their jobs on a day-to-day basis.

In some cases, a realtors association can serve as an information conduit for the general public by providing people with search tools to find a realtor, lender, home inspector, or other industry-specific professional.

Philanthropic efforts

Like many other professional organizations, a realtors association may also engage in civic or philanthropic efforts. Brought together by their common profession, people who work in the real estate industry may use their realtors association as a means to engage in community service, assist less fortunate members of their community, or otherwise provide benefit to their fellow citizens on a large scale.

Forums, industry news, awards, advocacy

A realtors association provides other benefits for its members. It may provide highly useful benefits to its members in a variety of ways, such as forums for industry professionals to discuss new developments within the industry, seminars to highlight important new information, and a newsletter to efficiently share industry news.

As with many other professional organizations focused on a particular set of issues, a realtors association might also include advocacy as part of its mission. This could cover a plethora of areas, including lobbying at the local, state, and federal levels of government. Advocacy efforts could also include working with trade organizations in related industries to maximize benefits for their benefits. For example, a realtors association might work with a banking association to lobby collectively for a piece of legislation that would benefit both.

Keeping up with the times

When searching for information about a realtors association, interested parties may begin with the internet. If the website address is unknown, a keyword search will often yield the desired results. The same is true for members of a real estate association; they no longer need to wait for a paper copy of the newsletter or that latest update about advocacy efforts. These and other publications are often available online. Finally, like many colleges and universities today, many realtors associations offer educational programs online.
