How to Get Your Real Estate Seller’s License
In order to be able to work as a professional real estate agent you must pass a State Board Exam. Depending upon the State in which you wish to work you must also participate in a set number of classroom or study hours. Each state is different and some demand only forty hours while others, such as Texas, ask for well over one hundred and fifty hours. Regardless of the demands, a majority of states permit their real estate professionals to attend regular classes at a formal school or local college or they may enroll in on Internet or online school for their studies.
While all of this class work may help to prepare the prospective real estate agent for their future career, it might not give them enough practice to achieve the necessary 75% or higher on their Board Exam. For this reason, most schools recommend a study guide or sample test experience to let the student know what they can expect. Most of the State Board Exams will last roughly four hours, which illustrates how thorough the knowledge base must be in order to pass them.
What kind of school is the best for getting your real estate seller’s license? It is important to note that not all schools will be the same. Some cater to those looking to study over a longer period of time – due to work and family schedules. Some are legal “cram courses” that offer the same amount of information, but in a seriously condensed time frame. The way to know what is best for you is to simply address the following factors: time, budget and enthusiasm.
If you have the time for a lengthier course you will probably be able to retain the knowledge better. If you have a bit more money you could probably enlist in a school that rolls all of the application, materials and testing fees into a single amount. Such schools will also usually administer the Board Exam as well.
So, once you have passed the test can you begin to sell? Actually it usually requires some professional mentoring or sponsorship in order to begin working in the real estate industry. What does that mean? Usually most new real estate sellers will have to be an employee or receive sponsorship from a licensed broker. This is actually very advantageous as it provides access to experienced professionals and your first clients.
